Have a fun on Winter Break! There is NO HOMEWORK!!
Mark Your Calendar: 4 more days of learning before Winter Break! Updates and Reminders: This Tuesday Dec. 19th is the winter party!!! It will be held from 9:30-10:30. From 10:30-10:55 we will be cleaning up and reading winter stories with a partners. Feel free to stay and read with a small group before lunch if you would like to join us for lunch. We have plenty of winter stories for the students to pick from and read! We are in need of pencil top erasers and large pink erasers. Please send in a healthy snack and a refilled water bottle daily. A thick winter jacket is needed on day where the high temps are 50 or below. Homeroom Homework: Reading for 15 minutes and talking to your child about what they read. See the homework tab for lots of questions you can ask! At this point the students should be diving deeply into understanding the text. Do you want to review the items below at home? Brainpop, brainpopjr, safari montage, learn zillion, and youtube have an abundance of great videos on the topics below. For writing- just having them practice an example of what we are doing in class would be helpful review. In class they typically pick their own writing topic. What We’re Working On : Word Study: This week the students will be reading their favorite winter and holiday stories with a partner that will connect with ELA standards that we have completed over the past nine weeks. They will read the story and complete different activities of their choice based on these topics: Contractions , Adjectives, Plural Nouns, Commas in the Greeting and Closing of letters, and Multiple Meaning Words. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR CHILD'S FAVORITE WINTER AND/OR HOLIDAY STORIES TO SHARE WITH THEIR CLASSMATES THEY WILL RETURN HOME BEFORE THE WINTER BREAK(PLEASE LABEL THE BOOKS WITH YOUR FAMILY NAME INSIDE THE FRONT COVER)! Thank you! Reading: We are identifying the narrative elements of fiction stories and working on accurately and concisely retelling a story. We will be reading winter themed Jan Brett books. Writing: How-To Writing- The students are working on writing sequential steps using transition words. We are also focusing this month on making sure to ALWAYS use capital letters and punctuation marks. We are going to be writing about ways to TRAP a Gingerbread Man to tie in well with our reading standards! Science: This week we will be completing STEM activities each day of the week to enhance and extend student learning. My Accelerated Math Class: This Monday we are taking our pre-assessment for Unit 4. We are also working on reviewing skills from the past 9 weeks. There will be no new content just a review and extension of the skills we have previously learned. Math homework this week will be math facts every day! Let me know if you have any questions! (No Study Guide) Topics: Contractions especially the not contractions, Possessives, Adjectives, Plural Nouns, Commas in the Greeting and Closing of letters, and Multiple Meaning Words. Reading: We are comparing and contrasting different Gingerbread stories. We are comparing and contrasting title, characters, setting, problems, and solutions. The students LOVE these stories and we don't have time for all of them that are out there! Feel free to look up more fun stories on youtube or at our local library. This week we are reading: The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, Gingerbread Baby, and Gingerbread Friends. We are learning about simple machines. Brainpop Login: SBCE Password: Learn Video: Simple Machines My Accelerated Math Class: This Friday we are taking our Unit 3 Math test. It will cover area (Length..the vertical line on a rectangle..and width the horizontal line of a rectange), how we can count a shapes area using square units, how we use the distributive property to find the area of large plane figures, input output tables, word problems, and graphs. The worksheets given as homework will count as their study guide. Let me know if you have any questions!
